A positive list, sometimes known as a whitelist, would ban many of the species you know and love, affecting responsible keepers, small businesses and ultimately, animal welfare.

A positive list (or whitelist) is a regulation that only allows specific animal species to be kept as pets. If a species isn’t on this list, it would be banned or heavily restricted.
If a positive list is implemented, it could mean that many beloved animal species will no longer be permitted as pets. This would affect your ability to keep, care for, and access veterinary services for the animals you’re passionate about, as well as significantly impacting pet businesses.
The EU is seeking feedback on this policy. By participating, you add to a united voice in favour of responsible, educated pet ownership and advocate against overly restrictive policies. Together, we can show that education – not prohibition – is the way forward.
