Tropical rainforest habitat

The best-known example of this type of habitat would be the Amazon. This region is protected by the Andes mountain range to the west, so weather fronts moving in from the east become trapped and clouds readily dump their water load into the landscape. As a result cloud cover is the norm with only sporadic periods of clear sky throughout the year. These clouds, plus the dense foliage of the region, provide exceptional insulating properties so temperatures remain stable year round with only marginal changes between day and night. Floods are common owing to the sheer amount of rainfall.
