Desert habitat

Desert habitats typically experience extreme daytime heat – so extreme that many reptiles from desert regions will seek shelter to avoid the hottest parts of the day. Interestingly, desert habitats will also experience a fast and steep drop in temperatures at night. This is because there is no tree cover and no cloud cover – both of which would act as insulators to slow that night-time temperature decline. Without this cover these desert habitats get really cold, really quickly when the sun goes down. These wildly-fluctuating temperatures would be maintained throughout most of the year with only small seasonal fluctuations.
