Our team
Tony Wigley
Tony has worked with reptiles since 1987, beginning his career at The Serpentarium in Walsall – once the largest reptile collection in Europe.
Since then, his career has included roles in reptile retail and wholesale, large-scale reptile breeding projects, livefood breeding facilities, venomous reptile collections and zoos.
Tony has also embarked on numerous herpetological field trips to remote locations including Madagascar, Nosy Hara, Mauritius, Round Island, Tunisia, New Zealand, La Gomera, North America, Gambia, Senegal and Equatorial Guinea.
Since 2001, Tony has been a journalist focusing on herpetology, husbandry, the reptile and exotic pet trade, and reptile advocacy and political lobbying. He has written for countless reptile-hobbyist- and pet-sector-publications, along with newsstand titles such as BBC Wildlife Magazine and The Spectator magazine.
Since 2005, Tony has worked alongside reptile lobbying and advisory organisations, providing communication, PR and journalism services. During this time he has worked with the Reptile and Exotic Pet Trade Association (REPTA), the Federation of British Herpetologists (FBH), The Pet Charity, The European Union Association of Reptile Keepers (EUARK) and Pets Canada. Tony has also provided consultancy and counsel to research and policymaking organisations including the United Nations, European Commission and UK DEFRA.
Tony co-founded Responsible Reptile Keeping in 2022.
