Leeds Talking & Animal

Assisted Therapy

LTAAT is a therapeutic service based in Leeds offering a unique blend of counselling, emotional support and animal-assisted therapy (AAT). We work with children, young people and adults who may find traditional talking therapy difficult, overwhelming or simply not the right fit. By combining qualified mental-health support with the calming presence of carefully selected animals, we create a gentle, accessible way for people to explore their feelings at a pace that feels safe.

Our therapy cabin is a warm, welcoming space powered sustainably using solar energy and fitted with natural décor, live plants and welfare-focused reptile enclosures. Our animals are chosen for their calm temperaments and suitability for therapeutic work, and their presence often helps clients regulate, reduce anxiety, build confidence and feel more grounded. Interaction is always optional and guided — clients can simply observe, gently handle, or just enjoy the quiet company of an animal.

LTAAT is run by Steph and Andrew, both registered and accredited members of the BACP with extensive experience in trauma, neurodiversity, emotional regulation, school refusal, anxiety, and complex mental-health needs. Although AAT is unregulated in the UK, we ensure the highest standards by combining qualified therapeutic practice, safeguarding knowledge, DBS-checked staff, comprehensive risk assessments and strong ethical principles. This means clients receive safe, clinically informed support — with or without animals present.

We also deliver animal-assisted wellbeing sessions, workshops and emotional-regulation support in schools, alternative provision and secure settings. These visits can help reduce overwhelm, strengthen resilience, improve confidence and create calmer learning environments.

At LTAAT, our focus is - We offer safe, compassionate, clinically grounded therapy supported by the soothing, regulating presence of animals — helping people feel understood, calmer and more connected.
